1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using STEMConnects ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Platform. If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian's consent to use this service.

2. Description of Service

STEMConnects is an online platform that connects students with qualified STEM tutors for personalized tutoring sessions. We facilitate scheduling, video conferencing, messaging, payments, and related educational services. STEMConnects acts as a marketplace and is not itself a tutoring provider.

3. User Accounts

  • You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
  • You may not create multiple accounts or share your account with others.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. User Roles and Responsibilities

4.1 Students

  • Attend booked sessions on time or cancel with reasonable notice.
  • Treat tutors with respect and maintain professional conduct during sessions.
  • Provide accurate information about academic needs and learning goals.
  • Make timely payments for completed sessions.

4.2 Tutors

  • Provide accurate credentials and qualifications during the application process.
  • Deliver high-quality tutoring services as described in your profile.
  • Honor scheduled sessions and maintain reliable availability.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations related to tutoring and education.
  • Not solicit students for off-platform transactions.

5. Booking and Payments

  • Sessions can be booked through instant booking or the bidding system.
  • Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Students are charged upon booking confirmation.
  • STEMConnects charges a platform fee on each transaction, as disclosed at checkout.
  • Tutor payouts are processed through Stripe Connect according to the payout schedule.
  • Refund requests must be submitted within 24 hours of a completed session.

6. Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations made more than 24 hours before a session receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations within 24 hours may be subject to a cancellation fee.
  • Repeated no-shows may result in account restrictions.
  • If a tutor cancels, the student will receive a full refund automatically.

7. Intellectual Property

The STEMConnects platform, including its design, code, content, and branding, is owned by STEMConnects and protected by intellectual property laws. Tutors retain ownership of their original teaching materials. Students retain ownership of their submitted work. By uploading content to the platform, you grant STEMConnects a limited license to store and transmit that content for the purpose of providing services.

8. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
  • Harass, bully, or discriminate against other users.
  • Share inappropriate, offensive, or harmful content.
  • Attempt to circumvent platform fees by arranging off-platform payments.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your qualifications.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or platform systems.
  • Use automated tools to scrape data or interact with the platform.

9. Reviews and Ratings

Users may leave reviews and ratings after completed sessions. Reviews must be honest, relevant, and respectful. We reserve the right to remove reviews that violate our guidelines, contain offensive language, or appear fraudulent. Tutors may report inappropriate reviews for admin review.

10. Limitation of Liability

STEMConnects provides the platform "as is" and makes no warranties regarding the quality of tutoring services provided by independent tutors. We are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of our platform, including but not limited to unsatisfactory tutoring outcomes, technical issues during sessions, or payment disputes between users.

11. Privacy

Your use of STEMConnects is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using the Platform, you consent to our data practices as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Termination

You may delete your account at any time through your Account Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these terms, fraudulent activity, or extended inactivity. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will remain in effect.

13. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform will be resolved through binding arbitration in San Francisco, California, unless otherwise required by applicable law. You agree to attempt to resolve disputes informally by contacting us before initiating formal proceedings.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or a notice on the Platform. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
